![]() ![]() I find the game becomes easier this way because you've got more than just one brain working on problems and you can multitask, but it's still satisfying. Trine 2 is also very friendly about multiplayer gaming, allowing up to three players to join the adventure either locally or online. In a matter of moments you might slash through some goblins as the knight, switch to the thief to grapple to a high platform, then switch to the wizard to move a heavy block in front of a flame thrower. When playing by yourself you switch between the three heroes at will. It will be available for download on the Nintendo eShop for 15. That's really cool, but it would have been nice to get a heads-up before I found myself stuck at the bottom of an ice slope for a little too long. The Wii U version - known as the Enchanted Edition - is an improved version of the original Trine released in 2009. The wizards platforms, for instance, can be stuck to swinging spiked maces, resulting in a pendulum conveyance. It does fail to teach the player some important mechanics, though, resulting in slight exasperation when you don't realize a solution is even possible. I love it when a game lets me off my leash and tells me "have fun," - and that's the kind of game Trine 2 is. The brilliance of Trine 2 is that it mostly leaves the choice of which hero to use up to you. You have three heroes at your disposal: a wizard that can conjure blocks and platforms, a thief with a bow and grappling hook, and a knight with sword, hammer, and shield. Players run from left to right through fantasy spectacles, surmounting obstacles and slaying a few goblins along the way. Switch to the Wizard and use levitate to lift the platform's "legs" in order to move across the gas and move on to the next level. If you played the first Trine, you'll find a very familiar game here. Operate the huge switch to move through the gate. Once you get the pattern, he goes down quite fast. Now take advantage of this to attack him with either the Knight or the Thief, though I found this fight easier with the Thief's arrows. Ignore the switch for now, and when the Goblin King swings at you, try to get him to hit something made of wood. Now you've met the biggest Goblin ever, the Goblin King. After this you'll drop down into a big chamber. Now place the big crate from the ground level onto the highest platform, slide it as far as you can to the right, and use it to leap to the leaf. Use the Wizard's levitate ability to move the leaf over the log, causing the water to spill back and forth down toward the sparkles below. Merely crossing a chasm can be a real conundrum, but. While visually impressive, they don't require the same thought as the rest of Trine 2. Use two crates to weigh down the ramp on the left of the log pipe, then one to weigh down the left side of the log pipe itself. The few boss fights prove slightly disappointing. The next section you will enter is puzzle involving plant-watering. Feel free to let them kill as many Goblins, as they will eventually walk out in front of them. Watch them closely and time your jumps correctly to avoid dying here. After clearing out this wave, hop across the dropping platforms ahead and dodge the swinging logs with spikes on them, they're quite deadly. Move along and you'll soon face another wave of Goblins. Levitate the bottom log to water the plant. Climb through the log and use a crate to change the flow of the water. Rebuild it to make it shoot air into the water, producing bubbles that will float you up toward the next section. The games three heroes are undeniably good. At the bottom right here you'll see a wind pipe. When you reach a retracted platform, you'll be forced to fight another wave of Goblins. Move on, staying up high to avoid taking any damage. ![]() Mushroom Caves is the eighth level in Trine 2. This is the second chest you should have found, and contains the second collectible in Trine 2. Trine 2 at IGN: walkthroughs, items, maps, video tips, and strategies.
